Leo J. “Bo” Winters

Leo J. “Bo” Winters, 83, of Water Street, Johnsonburg, died on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys after a lengthy illness. Born on Oct. 3, 1928 in Johnsonburg, he was the son of the late Walter and Grace (Meise) Winters. On July 12, 1958, he married Lillian M. (Fitch) Winters. She predeceased him on Dec. 10, 2009. Leo lived all of his life in Johnsonburg and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked in construction and was owner/operator of Winters Bar & Grill of Johnsonburg for 22 years. He was an avid blood donor and the first Johnsonburg resident to donate 10 gallons of blood. He also worked as a blood courier for local doctors. He was a longtime member of the Johnsonburg/Wilcox Servicemen’s Burial Detail. He was proud of his undertaking of two 50-mile hikes under the outline of Roosevelt’s presidential mandate for servicemen of 1908 and popularized in 1963 by President Kennedy’s public fitness interest.He is survived by two sons, David Winters of Bradford and Leo Winters Jr. of St. Marys; three stepchildren, Allen O’Conner, Patricia O’Connor, and Deborah Cicuzza, all of Johnsonburg; three sisters, Sarah Pusl, Helen Eckert, and Rosella Wolf, all of Ridgway; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Thomas, Lester and Michael Winters; six sisters, Hilda Gasbarre, Lucille Silcosky, Rachel Brown, Betty in her youth and two infant twin sisters; and one grandchild, Damian O’Connor.Friends of Leo J. "Bo" Winters are invited to attend a memorial service to be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012 at the Ubel Funeral Home, Johnsonburg. Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg/Wilcox Servicemen’s Detail. Servicemen are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012. Interment will take place at McKean Memorial Park in Lafayette.
