Luke Daghir throws one-hitter as Crusaders win

The Elk County Catholic Crusader baseball team used the one-hit pitching of Luke Daghir to advance to the finals of the Elk County Baseball Tournament with an 8-1 win over the Ridgway Elkers Friday at Berwind Park.Elk Catholic takes on Johnsonburg today at noon for the tournament title.Daghir gave up a single, walked one and struck out seven for Elk Catholic.Josh Mitchell started on the mound for Ridgway, going 5 2/3 innings and giving up eight hits, walking five and striking out eight. Kevin Kilhoffer worked 1/3 of an inning of relief.Elk Catholic had eight hits in the game. Ben Daghir and Brock McCullough each had a double and a single. Sam Schneider doubled and Luke Daghir had two singles. Kyle Schneider had a single.Slade Horner had Ridgway’s lone single which came in the fifth inning.“Luke pitched a good game today, a one-hitter,” said ECCHS coach Father Eric Vogt. “He kept them off balance.”“We had pretty good defense but we had clutch hits when we needed them. (Josh) Mitchell threw a good game for them (Ridgway). He kept them in the game,” added Father Eric.The Elkers went down in order in the top of the first inning. In the home half of the inning, Josh Feldbauer was hit by a pitch with one out. He stole second and third and scored on a single by Luke Daghir, giving ECC the 1-0 lead.Both teams went down in order in the second inning. The top of the third found Ridgway going down in order. Elk Catholic left a man on base in their half of the inning.The Elkers went down in order in the fourth inning. In the home half of the inning, Joe McLaughlin led off with a walk. Jake Cortina reached on a fielder’s choice. With one out, Eric Wehler walked. With two outs, Ricky Pearsall walked, scoring McLauglin. Kyle Schneider singled, scoring both Cortina and Wehler to give Elk Catholic the 4-0 lead.D.J. Skraba was hit by a pitch in the top of the fifth inning. He moved to second on an error. With one out, Horner singled, scoring Skraba to cut ECC’s lead to 4-1. In the home half of the inning, the Crusaders threatened but left the bases loaded.Ridgway left a runner on base on the top of the sixth inning. In the home half of the sixth, Kyle Schneider was hit by a pitch and Luke Daghir reached base on an infield single. A double by Ben Daghir scored Schneider and Luke Daghir. A double by McCullough scored Ben Daghir.
