St. Marys celebrates Independence Day

Photo by Amy Cherry - A seven-man crew from Starfire Corp., based in Carrolltown, began setting up the display for the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce's annual fireworks show on Sunday held at The Highlands and Leaning Pines Golf Course. This year crew members spent four hours picking out shells as part of the design process. For larger shows it can take up to three days. According to Vince Terrizzi, Starfire Corp. director of operations, 53 shells are used in the opening barrage. The body of the show includes shells ranging in size from 3-6 in. with the finale's shells measuring 2.5-8 in. Each shell burns 80-100 ft./second.
