William J. Ott

William J. Ott, 80, of 430 N. St. Marys St., St. Marys, died on Monday morning, Nov. 29, 2010, at the Elk Regional Health Center after a brief illness. He was born April 10, 1930, in St. Marys, son of the late John and Philomena (Minnie) Sweener Ott. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys schools. He was a retired employee of Elite Metals, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the St. Mary's Church and a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant. He was a member of the American Legion, member and past president of the PFL, member of the CMF, enjoyed bowling and horseshoes and was an avid Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Pirates fan.He is survived by two daughters, Marcia Salter and her fiancee, Daniel Krieg, of St. Marys, and Karen Green and her husband, Lance, of St. Marys; two sons, Thomas W. Ott and his wife, Donna, of St. Marys and David J. Ott and his wife, Pam, of St. Marys; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Smith of St. Marys, and a number of nieces and nephews.Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Regina Cole, Helen Gnan, Rose Smithbauer, Theresa Wonderly and Alice Gardner; by a brother, George Ott in childhood, and by two sets of twin brothers in infancy; and by a son-in-law, Thomas Lecker.A Mass of Christian Burial for William Ott will be celebrated in the St. Mary's Church on Thursday at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Daniel Wolfel OSB as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery.Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.Visitation will be at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Center Street on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.Memorials, if desired, can be made to a favorite charity.
