On Tuesday the Diocese of Erie announced completion of its Independent Survivors’ Reparation Program aimed at compensating victims of sexual abuse committed by clergy and lay people affiliated with the diocese.
A total of $16.6 million in compensation has been paid to 134 claimants as part of the program in which administrators were hired to oversee.
According to the diocese, 181 applications were received and 134 applicants received and accepted offers. Ten claimants were ineligible for the program and independent administrators declined to make offers to 30 claimants. Seven claimants chose not to accept offers.
