ST. MARYS - While the official Summer Olympic Games are set to kick off later this summer, South St. Marys Street Elementary School recently conducted their own school-wide Olympics.
The warm, sunny weather was the ideal backdrop for the event, which took place last week at Berwind Park, located down the street from the school. The school’s entire population of 550 students participated including virtual learning students.
Mandy Assalone, SSMSE physical education teacher, has played a significant role in organizing the games throughout her teaching career at SSMSE. This year the Olympics took on a new structure due to COVID-19 restrictions which required a total overhaul of the event and the need for additional planning time.
